This was a truly challenging existing layout to work with, and the detailing was very slow and deliberate, but what a wonderful result! Notice how nicely the flooring sets off the bright colors of the throw rugs which in turn highlight the muted celery color of the island.
Sometimes there are little touches with a big impact on the appeal of a room; did you see how the arched opening comes to a shallow point? This is called a Tudor arch, it is found around older Durham homes (1930s and 40s) and is a detail worth preserving.
Can you spot the refrigerator? It has a cabinet front that allows it to blend into the tall cabinets beside the microwave.
